Aloud Hurumba (23) was not formally charged when he appeared before regional magistrate Mr William Bhila, who remanded him in custody to July 27.
His trial date has been set for August 18.
Hurumba told the court that fellow policemen assaulted him while he was in custody.
Prosecutor Mr Michael Reza said he would investigate the claims, adding that the accused should be remanded in custody for Government doctors to examine him.
Hurumba was stationed at Chikurubi Support Unit, Lima Troop.
Mr Reza alleges that Hurumba was issued with a service pistol in April this year.
ARMED ROBBERY
On June 11, he approached the first complainant, Siteni Mhungwe, a cabman at the corner of Chinhoyi Street and Jason Moyo Avenue asking to be taken to Manresa.
As they drove along Acturus Road, and after passing Chikurubi Support Unit, he asked the unsuspecting taxi driver to turn into a dust road and he complied.
He asked him to stop after 200 metres whereupon he drew his service pistol and pointed it at the taxi driver demanding cash and his cellphone.
Mhungwe, it is alleged, surrendered US$110 and his Nokia 6630.
After the robbery, Hurumba allegedly got out of the vehicle and ordered him to drive off.
On June 16, using the same modus operandi, Hurumba allegedly robbed Mr Ashley Mupfumba of Apple Taxis of US$230.
Two days later, he allegedly robbed Mr Enos Dzeko of HP Taxis of US$32 and a G-Tide cellphone.
On June 19, Hurumba robbed Mr Josphat Mapaswe of Tripple Taxis of US$95.
On June 23, it is alleged, Hurumba hired Mr Ethel Mukowachimana to Greendale and when they approached a house in the suburb he ordered the taxi driver to stop and pointed a gun at him demanding cash.
The driver would not budge and a fight ensued.
The fight went on and the pair fell from the vehicle and the pistol accidentally fired one shot and they continued fighting.
Mr Mukowachimana overpowered Hurumba and disarmed him but he failed to operate the pistol.
Hurumba picked a stone and struck the taxi driver on the left hand and he dropped the pistol, it is alleged.
Hurumba allegedly picked up the pistol and told Mr Mukowachimana that he was leaving him alone and sped off.
The policeman was arrested following a tip off from members of the public.
