A GANG of armed robbers, masquerading as policemen, used a machete to strike both hands of one of their victims in a savage attack.

The four-member gang posed as police officers before pouncing on their victims.

Romeo Chakwizira, William Mabika, Lloyd Mutusva and Liberty Chigwada were later arrested and appeared in court yesterday facing armed robbery charges.

Allegations were that on April 13, the gang went to a complainant’s house and introduced themselves as police officers.

When they got into the house, they produced a pistol and two machetes, and handcuffed the complainant.

They allegedly ordered the complainant to lie down on the floor and struck her on both hands with a machete.

They then went on to ransack the house looking for money and stole a 42-inch TV set, blankets, laptops and money.

They went to the garage and took a solar battery and loaded the stolen property into the complainant’s Toyota Quantum, and drove off.

They dumped the car at a car wash in Chitungwiza.

Their arrest led to the recovery of some stolen property which was positively identified.
