Mashonaland West provincial police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the incident adding that several people were injured in the process.
“We are investigating a case in which a gang of 10 men went to a mill in Kadoma and stole several valuables. Several people were injured in the process,” he said.
They demanded to know where the carbon box — where gold is separated from the ore through a chemical process — was and they broke the boxes, which were secured by concrete slabs using shovels and picks. The gang took 250 kg of pregnant carbon, which had not been fully processed and 18gm of toasted gold, a wheelbarrow and four cellphones, all valued at US$3 250.
One of them later fired a shot into the air before they disappeared into the dark. Inspector Mabgweazara urged anyone with information leading to the arrest of the gang to approach or call Kadoma CID Minerals on 068-22427/26600 or their nearest police station.
