TWO suspected armed robbers appeared in court yesterday.
Patricia Mutedzi, 21, and Davison Chinopenga, 45, were both denied bail when they appeared before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda.
The duo will be back in court today for bail application. Circumstances are that on June 29, Chinopenga, Mutedzi and others still on the run, went to the complainant’s house, armed with iron bars, a hammer and broom stick and threatened her with death if she did not comply with their demands.
They asked her to give them money being kept in the house.
They assaulted her with an iron bar until she gave them US$1 175 and R1 000.
They ransacked the house and went away with four cellphones and a laptop.
Mutedzi was the driver of the getaway car.
Meanwhile, in a different case, Chinopenga appeared in court facing unlawful possession of explosives for criminal use. It is alleged that CID Homicide detectives received information on the robbery and, during investigations, the police conducted a search and recovered two explosives, two police anti-riot trousers and a green police shirt.
Chinopenga failed to produce a permit for the explosives and to explain why he kept police uniforms.
He has several pending cases in Karoi and Chitungwiza for robbery and kidnapping.
Chinopenga could hardly walk or sit and claimed that he was severely assaulted by the police. Mutedzi also claimed she was assaulted.
“I was severely beaten despite telling them that I was pregnant. I am now afraid that I might lose my baby,” she said.
Anesu Chirenje prosecuted.
