Armed robbers blow up safe, steal US$700,000 and Gold in Mt Darwin Bank heist

Police in Zimbabwe have launched a manhunt for three armed robbers who raided a bank in Mt Darwin’s central business district in the early hours of Wednesday and made off with US$700,000 and 2.4 kilogrammes of gold after blasting open a safe.

In a post on X, police said the robbery occurred at around 2AM on June 26, when the unidentified suspects, armed with pistols, attacked a security guard who was on duty before breaking into the bank.
“After subduing the guard, the suspects used explosives to gain access to the bank safe and stole the cash and gold before fleeing the scene. Police have not disclosed the name of the bank involved,” read the post..

This robbery came a day after another in Bulawayo where at Old Nic Mine three armed men stormed its offices and attacked three employees before fleeing with US$520,000 and two cellphones.
“The ZRP confirms that investigations are underway in both cases. More detailed information will be released in due course,” police said in a statement.
