ZIMBABWE will be out to challenge for a place in the final when they take on Zambia in the semi-finals of the ongoing International Handball Federation Women’s Nations Trophy Africa – Zone VI tournament in Lusaka on Friday.
Zimbabwe pulled through to the semi-final after beating Malawi 32-24 in their last Group B match. The win saw them finish second in the group.
And with the top two teams from Group A and Group B advancing to the last four, Zimbabwe joined Group B winners Mozambique in the semis.
Zimbabwe’s coach Tawanda Mapira is hopeful they can rise above the challenge.
“We are planning to make a surprise just like we did with Malawi. They were not expecting this,” said Mapira.
They have had a chance to watch Zambia playing and Mapira said they are making some adjustments to their team.
“We simply looked at their match and their main focus is fast play. We are having positional changes, trying to use our fast players to work on the wings,” said Mapira.
Zambia topped Group A to advance to the semi-final, while South Africa placed second.
South Africa face Mozambique in the other semi-final match.
