an effective two years each.
Khumbulani Mhlanga (20) and Vincent Mwale (19) both from Bulawayo were convicted on their own plea of guilty when they appeared before magistrate Mr Carrington Karidzagundi.
Mr Karidzagundi had initially slapped them with three years each but suspended one year for five years.
Charges against the two arose on August 9 when they hatched a plan to raise bus fare to Esigodini. They armed themselves with a toy gun and Okapi knife and waylaid people near a shopping complex on the road leading to the border post.
They pounced on the security guard who was on his way to work and produced the knife and toy gun.
The pair threatened to kill him before stealing his R200.
As they were about to leave, the guard screamed prompting members of the public to give chase to the two.
The toy gun and the Okapi knife were recovered but the R200 was not.
