TWO robbers armed with a pistol ransacked a supermarket in Mbizo, Kwekwe, before getting away with cash, airtime recharge cards and cellphones and disappeared into the night. The robbery took place on Monday around 6.40PM at Nevose Supermarket in Mbizo 1 Extension Shopping Centre.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko confirmed the incident.
He said the assailants are still at large.
“I can confirm a case of armed robbery which occurred at Nevose Supermarket in Mbizo 1 Extension where two armed robbers entered the supermarket. The two robbers then ordered Clayton Nkompilo and Josephine Zaware who are till operators at the supermarket to sit down,” said Insp Goko.
The police spokesperson said one of the robbers fired on the floor while the other demanded cash from the till operators.
“The firearm discharge seemed to have attracted a lot of attention at the shopping centre, forcing the two robbers to abruptly leave the supermarket,” he said.
The Midlands police spokesperson said the two robbery suspects managed to get away with $200, airtime vouchers worth $27 and two Samsung cellphones whose value could not be immediately ascertained.
He said the suspects disappeared into the nearby bush and are still at large.
Insp Goko appealed to members of the public with information leading to the arrest of the duo to inform their nearest police station.
He said members of the public can also make use of the police hotlines or suggestion boxes.
