SIX armed robbers on Sunday pounced on a church in Borrowdale.
The gang attacked, disarmed and tied a security guard manning an Anglican Christ Church along Crowhill Road at around 1am.
They then force marched him to a church office, blasted the safe and stole US$360.
The robbers were wearing face masks and were armed with iron bars and bolt cutters.
The 67-year-old security guard sustained a swollen right leg during the attack and was referred to Parirenyatwa Hospital for treatment.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the case.
“Police are investigating a robbery case at a Borrowdale church where a security guard was attacked.
“They took away his baton and one of the accused struck the complainant once with an iron bar on the right leg while others assaulted him with the baton all over the body.
“The accused persons tied the complainant with strings on both legs and hands.
“Thereafter, they demanded the location of the church safe.
“The accused persons broke into the church offices and blasted the church safe with unknown explosives and stole money and various groceries,” said Insp Chakanza.
The church parish is under Rev Abel Muparidzi.
