Police in Kwekwe have launched a manhunt for five armed robbers who pounced on Petrol Trade Service Station in Kwekwe before getting away with about US$800 and groceries among other valuables.
The five gun toting robbers reportedly tied the security guards before they forced entry into the offices, blasted the safe and took about US$800 cash and looted groceries from the garage tuck-shop and fled into the darkness.
Midlands Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed they have since launched a manhunt for the armed robbers.
“On 8 September 2024 at about 1AM, Enos Nyarenda (65) and Johnson Maura (56) who are employed at the service station as security guards were on duty when they were approached by five unknown other men who were armed with a pistol. Maura was manhandled by one of the gang whilst the other four forcibly entered the guard room,” said Inspector Mahoko.
They assaulted the guards before tying their hands and legs.
“The complainants were left in the custody of one of the suspects whilst the other four went to the offices where they forcibly opened the main entrance door, blasted an immovable safe and took cash amounting to US$799. They went on to steal various groceries and a movable safe from the service station kiosk,” he said.
Total value stolen is US$1 081.
“We are appealing to members of the public who might have information leading to the arrest of the suspects to report to the nearest police station. We urge members of the public not keep large sums of money inside their houses but make use of banks instead,” said Inspector Mahoko
