Police said Mr Jayton Masikela, of Mushahwindi Village under Chief Nemangwe in Gokwe South, was awakened in the middle of the night by three unidentified suspects while sleeping at his workplace, Sai General Dealers.
Acting Midlands police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident, which happened on Saturday last week at around 12.30am.
He said the three suspects, who were still at large, pretended to be customers, who wanted to buy some packets of biscuits.
“On the day in question, it is alleged that the complaint Mr Masikela was sleeping with his sons, Blessing and Creabias in a room behind the shop. While sleeping three unidentified suspects driving a Toyota Spacio arrived at the shop. The three suspects told the complainant that they wanted to buy biscuits,” said Asst Insp Mahoko.
He said the complainant woke up and came out using the shop’s back door. Asst Insp Mahoko said one of the suspects produced a weapon, which looked like a pistol and a knife from his pocket.
“He then ordered Mr Masikela to lie down before he searched his trousers pockets. The suspect then took $40 in cash. The other two suspects went inside the shop and took a Kippo Generator, an amplifier, an inverter, packets of Marie biscuits and a black DVD. They loaded the items into the vehicle and drove towards Gokwe Town,” he said.
Asst Insp Mahoko said the matter was reported to the police, who attended to the scene. He said nothing was recovered and the three suspects were still at large.
Police appealed to members of the public with information that might lead to the arrest of the suspects to report at any nearest police station.
