A DARK CLOUD hung over a woman who was sleeping with her son when armed robbers, who were wearing balaclavas, descended on her house in Kensington plots and took goods, cash and tied them together with a rope before they drove off in her car.
The five unknown men, who are still at large, were armed with machetes, knives and knobkerries.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the robbery incident.
“I can confirm that we are investigating a case of robbery that occurred at Kensington where a woman and her child were tied together with a rope by two of the five-member gang that took US$600, grocery, electrical gadgets and drove off in her Toyota Wish car. We are appealing to information that may lead to the arrest of the five unknown men who are on the run,” said Insp Ncube.
Insp Ncube advised members of the community to desist from keeping large sums of money at home but to keep them at the banks.
A source close to investigations said On 23 December 2020 at around 12:30AM, the woman was awakened by five unknown people who were standing in her bedroom while wielding machete, knives and knobkerries.
The source said “They ordered her not to scream after that they tied her together with her son,” said the source.
“They told her straight to her face that they would kill her son if she refused to give them money. She then showed them where the keys to the safe where, they opened it and took US$600.”
The robbers, the source said, ransacked the house and took groceries worth P8 000, two solar panels, inverter, plasma TV, 3 iPhones, toaster, microwave, MacBook iPad, four brand new blankets and two apple tablets.
They also took car keys for a Toyota Land Cruiser.
“The accused persons then loaded the stolen goods into the car and drove off, leaving them tied together,” the source said.
Mother and son untied themselves and reported the matter at a police station.
