THREE armed robbers, who robbed New Castle Group of Schools, were dragged to court over the weekend after they were tracked through a cellphone that was stolen during the robbery.
Samson Tinashe Makamelo, Partially Makamelo and Tinotenda Munemo appeared before magistrate Donald Ndirowei, who remanded them in custody.
The complainants are Courage Giwa, the school’s mechanic, Lovemore Sigudu, Cosmas Marodza, Johannes Mikalakala and Japhet Mariri, who all the school’s drivers.
The court heard that on May 8, the trio and their accomplice, Batsirai Chinagani, who is already on remand for the same case, connived to rob the school.
They went to the school, just after midnight, armed with various pistols and knives.
They broke into Giwa’s bedroom and one of them pointed his pistol at him before they tied him up with electric cables and left one of the gang members guarding him.
The rest of the gang went to the parked school buses and took all the drivers hostage. One of the robbers fired two shots into the air as they broke into the main office. They ransacked all the offices but couldn’t find anything.
They returned to the room, where they were keeping their victims hostage, and stole their belongings, money and cellphones, amounting to US$2500.
Chinagani was the first to be arrested and implicated his accomplices.
