A ZVISHAVANE man has been jailed for an armed robbery that left a cashier bleeding and terrified.
Tafadzwa Zhou (20) was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment by the Zvishavane Magistrates’ Court, but will serve 18 months effective after part of the sentence was suspended on conditions of good behaviour and restitution of US$40 to the victim.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), in a statement, said Zhou and his two partners in crime, identified only as Richie and Tonderai, who are still on the run, launched a violent attack at Antony Mine Tuckshop on 14 August 2025.
“The trio was armed with knives and tasers, which they used to threaten and assault the complainant,” said the NPAZ.
During the robbery, the cashier, Tichatyei Kudonora, was stabbed on the left arm and tased three times before the robbers fled with US$40 cash and two Monster gold detectors worth US$1 540.
CID Minerals, Flora and Fauna Unit (MFFU) detectives quickly swung into action and traced the stolen detectors to a buyer linked to Zhou. The items were recovered, sealing his fate in court.
“The swift response of law enforcement is highly commended,” said the NPAZ. “Members of the public are urged to avoid handling or buying stolen or suspicious property, as doing so fuels crime and may lead to arrest.”
