THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested a lone armed robber who was nabbed after attacking a driver in Bellevue last Friday and later connected to seven more armed robberies.

The 31-year-old suspect, identified by police as Nkosana Maketho, is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.

“On 9 May, Nkosana Maketho, masquerading as a genuine commuter, stopped a motorist who was driving a Honda Fit along Wellington Road, Bellevue, Bulawayo.

“Along the way, the suspect produced a firearm, threatened the complaint and demanded cash and other valuables,” said police in a statement.

Fearing for his life, the complainant surrendered US$50.

“The suspect disembarked and disappeared into the darkness. The complainant immediately mobilised members of the public to search for the suspect in nearby maize fields while simultaneously alerting the police.

“Detectives from CID Homicide Bulawayo swiftly reacted to the scene, leading to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of a Blow F92, 9mm Calibre blank gun,” said police.

Further investigations linked Maketho to seven other armed robbery cases committed in Bulawayo.

“In one of the cases which occurred on 19 April 2026 at the intersection of Nketa Drive and Masiyephambili Drive, the suspect was offered a lift by the complainant after gunpoint along the way.

“Later that night and at around 11:50pm the suspect robbed another motorist using the same modus operandi. Various cellphones have been recovered following his arrest. The suspect expected to appear in court today (Tuesday).
