The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) has dispelled viral social media notices purporting to invite potential recruits for 2018.
In a statement issued on Monday, ZNA said they had noted with concern the continued misuse of social media and online platforms by some criminal elements that were posting false ZNA recruitment programmes for this year.
“These false notifications, which are currently in circulation on WhatsApp and online sites, are to the effect that there is an ongoing ZNA recruitment programme for 2018,” said the ZNA.
“The false social media are directing all potential recruits to report to the nearest military institutions in the Midlands, Manicaland, Masvingo, Matabeleland South and Matabeleland North provinces.”
ZNA advised the public that it did not recruit through agents and on social media.
“The ZNA would like to reiterate and advise the public that it does not recruit through agents and social media,” said the army.
“The army does not require any cash payment whatsoever from individuals for recruitment purposes. No one must pay to join the army.”
The ZNA said the origins of the fake messages were being investigated and the criminal elements, once apprehended, would be prosecuted. Recruitment programmes are advertised in the mainstream print and electronic media, the army said.
“Prospective applicants then respond through written applications, after which selections are then carried out at the different military cantonments throughout all the country’s provinces,” said the army.
