Zimbabwe National Army Schools and Welfare Trust (ZNASWT) chairperson, Cde Sikhanyiso Ndlovu, yesterday commissioned a two-classroom block at Induna High School in Bulawayo.The new classroom block was constructed at an estimated cost of $10,000 through the combined efforts of the Zimbabwe National Army Charities and parents.
Cde Ndlovu said the two-classroom block will accommodate 80 A-Level pupils.
“Prior to the construction of the classroom block, the school was facing a serious challenge of classrooms. We had classroom shortages, especially for A-Level pupils.
“When A-Level classes were introduced at Induna High School in 2014, classrooms were annexed at the primary school.
“This wasn’t a wholesome situation as it caused a lot of inconveniences. The arrangement made supervision of pupils by the administration a nightmare,” he said.
He said the construction of the building was not easy considering that the funds were not readily available.
“The construction started in 2011 as a pilot project with parents making contributions to fund the initiative. Later, in 2014, Zimbabwe National Army charities donated $5,974 to make the project a resounding success,” said Cde Ndlovu.
Induna High School headmistress, Lieutenant Bonisani Moyo, said the new block was a welcome development.
“We’re greatly honoured as Induna High School to have received financial support from ZNASWT for the construction of the A-Level classroom block.
“We would also like to appreciate the Engineers Squadron which worked tirelessly to install the ceiling and painted the walls as well as the parents who showed their unwavering support for the project,” she said.
Lt Moyo said the new building will go a long way in attracting more children to the school and promote quality education.
Gladys Moyo, a parent, said the community was excited by the new development as it brought A-Level education closer to their children.
“My son who is a pupil here can’t wait to attend lessons in the new classroom block.
“As a parent this initiative also gives me the zeal to support the school projects because all donations made to the school have produced results,” said Moyo.
Among the guests who graced the commissioning of the classroom block were the director of Army Education Corps, Colonel Edward Mhumbu, District education Officer in the army Major Martin Mukumba, Commanding officer Combat Group Lieutenant Colonel Oscar Tshuma, District Education Officer Becky Mahlangu and War Veterans Association national treasurer Cde Robert Ncube.
