A Cote d’Ivoire environmental activist has cycled through 33 African countries since beginning his journey in April last year.
Kabore Karim (26), who arrived in the country on Friday from Mozambique, said his ultimate goal was to reach every country in Africa on his bike.
He is spreading awareness about the effects of global warming and promoting sustainable living.
“I want to inspire people to take care of the environment and make a difference in their own lives,” he said.
Kabore’s journey has captured the imagination of people across the continent, with many following his progress on social media and offering support along the way.
“I am overwhelmed by the love and support I’ve received from people across Africa. It gives me the strength to keep going and make a difference,” he said.
“I decided to go sightseeing, touring Africa. I got this bike in Morocco. I worked with an Arab woman, and her child gave me this bike for free.
“I nearly gave up when I made a stopover in Yaoundé, Cameroon, but I got encouragement and continued with my journey and this is now my 33rd country.
“I cycled through 19 countries in less than a year doing around 200km per day.
“I met some challenges along the way like wild animals, but none harmed me.”
Kabore, who is still single, said he intends to marry after completing his mission.
“Zimbabwe is peaceful, with friendly people and I wish I could stay here longer, but I have to finish my race.
“My bicycle is strong and I have just been changing tyres only. I rely on food donated to me by well-wishers, and sleep on pavements at shopping centres.”
He is expected to head to Zambia on Tuesday next week.
