Arsenal dangles carrot

LONDON. – Arsenal have offered Alexis Sanchez a new contract worth £300 000 per week. But manager Arsene Wenger has admitted Arsenal are “not super optimistic” that they can convince the 28-year-old forward to extend his contract. The striker’s current deal runs out at the end of the season and he has refused to sign an extension. Arsenal’s previously offered £225 000, with bonuses that could have bumped up his pay to £275 000 a week.

But Sanchez made it clear he wants upwards of £300 000 before even considering agreeing fresh terms and it remains to be seen whether the new offer will be enough. – The Daily Mail
