A JEALOUS man from Inyathi committed suicide by hanging in Insuza after torching his girlfriend’s kitchen hut, police have confirmed.
Matabeleland North police spokesperson, Chief Inspector Siphiwe Makonese, said Mbonisi Ndlovu (33) of Majimi Village under Chief Mtshane Khumalo ordered people who were in his girlfriend’s kitchen hut to move out before setting it alight at around 11PM on Wednesday last week.
The incident, which was initially reported as attempted murder before being altered to a report of sudden death, occurred in Village 2, Insuza area under Chief Deli.
Chief Insp Makonese said Ms Loveness Mpala and her family members whose details were not given escaped unhurt while the fire destroyed all property that was in the kitchen hut.
Ndlovu’s body was found hanging from a tree in a nearby bush on Thursday.
“The deceased was drinking beer in the company of his girlfriend Ms Loveness Mpala (29) of Insuza under Chief Deli when a misunderstanding arose when he accused her of infidelity. Ndlovu assaulted Ms Mpala with fists and went away leaving her at the beer drink,” said Chief Insp Makonese.
She said Ndlovu proceeded to Ms Mpala’s place of residence at night where he allegedly torched the hut.
“At around 11PM, Ndlovu proceeded to Ms Mpala’s place of residence where he ordered everyone out of a kitchen hut before setting it on fire,” Chief Insp Makonese said.
A report was made to the police.
Ndlovu, who was now wanted for attempted murder, was found hanging from a tree branch on the following day.
Police attended the scene and Matabeleland North provincial magistrate-in-charge Mr Livard Philimon waived post-mortem.—@ncubeleon.
