PRIMARY school teacher, Takudzwa Gwekwerere, is keen to inspire generations to take a huge interest in the power and value of art.
Speaking to H-Metro, Gwekwerere said many Zimbabweans do not appreciate the real beauty of art.
“I am a talented young man who is looking to inspire people the same way I’m inspired by a lot of professional artists out there.
“My wish is to teach art to many people and have my own art and tattooing studio.
“I enjoy art since I am an art teacher, who has been teaching primary school kids for the past four years,” he said.
He said he does not only paint portraits.
“I am a self-taught professional artist who is passionate about art and creativity as I do paintings, designs, teaching art as well as tattooing.
“I started drawing at a very young age when l was in primary school.
“I would draw people’s faces, flowers, animals and different things in my spare time in class,” he told H-Metro.
He, however, bemoaned the lack of appreciation of art by a bigger section of the country.
“I feel like a lot of people do not take it seriously.
“Art is something that I find peace, and so much joy in, whenever I am drawing.
“My mother provided the best inspiration because she would encourage me to pursue a career in art.
“l remember she bought me expensive art materials, with the little money she had at that time, l will never forget that.
“I started getting commission here and there and that motivated me to work harder and perfect my craft.
“I did a hyper realistic portrait of the late legendary, Oliver Mtukudzi, and had the privilege to give him as a gift, in person, when he was in Victoria Falls for a show.”
