IT was a weekend to remember for artistes who attended the inaugural Amplifaya Festival held at the Heritage Adventure Park within the Rainbow Towers Hotel in Harare on Saturday.
In hindsight, they look at the show with optimism as a platform which gave them endless musical opportunities.
Chronicle Showbiz tracked down artistes, Noluntu J and MJ Sings and the two said the festival was a vibe.
MJ Sings said he learnt that music has no language barrier.
“Amplifaya was fire indeed. The major highlight for me was seeing people from all walks of life singing my song Thixo. That’s when I saw that music knows no language, but is a universal language on its own. For years, we’ve been fed a perception that language is a barrier, but on Saturday, everyone was singing Thixo and it was amazing.
“Seeing the crowd singing along to the songs was the biggest highlight for me. I was nervous because my performance set was right before Nyasha David and Takura so to get such a crazy response from the crowd was the best feeling,” he said.
MJ Sings added that the event was great as it also gave them a chance to network with other artistes for future projects.
“The talent in this country is exceptional. I’m already working on some stuff with some big names in Harare and I’m so excited about that. I can’t share names right now, but it’s going to be massive,” he said.
Female rapper, Noluntu J, popularly-known as Ndlunkulu echoed MJ Sings’ sentiments and said the festival was fun.
“Harare was lit and I enjoyed myself. It was lit,” she said.
The festival was organised by digital media company EarGround in partnership with Gateway Music Stream to give emerging voices a platform.
From Matabeleland, a contingent consisting of MJ Sings, Noluntu J, Tebza, Kyla Blac, Murphy Cubic and Andrea The Vocalist graced the capital city. There, they performed in tandem with Suhn, Takura, Feli Nandi, Denim Woods, Boi Shona, Ti Gonzi, Blot, Ishan and Dobba Don among other artistes. – @eMKlass_49
