TALENTED new artistes are emerging and coming up with new sounds that have the potential of making a huge impact on the music scene if given the necessary exposure.
The desire to make it huge has seen these artistes taking their music to the streets in a bid to reach out to the public and in the same vein create a wide fan base and earn something from the sales of their music. It is interesting to note that these musicians and artistes are not stopping short at anything and are seeking alternative channels of marketing their music and build their names.
Also interesting is the fact that the artistes are now resorting to other studios other than the traditional names owing to the attention that they get from the music producers who give them all the time and respect they deserve. Some of the new products from such artistes are reviewed below:
Last Mukasida — My Redeemer
The town of Norton continues to churn out more new names in the music industry owing to the inspiration that music legend, Oliver Mtukudzi has rubbed off on to the community. One of such artistes who are based in Norton and who has produced an album that is poised to cause a big stir on the local music charts is none other than Last Mukasida, whose nine-track gospel album, “My Redeemer”, has all what it takes for a scorcher.
Backed by the outfit ‘‘The Holy Praises’’, Mukasida — who was produced by music producer Larvel at Hatcliffe-based studio, Sepp Records — proves how the likes of Mutare-based gospel musician Blessing Shumba and Mathias Mhere from Harare are the major sources of inspiration for him, although this does not mean that he is not his own man.
Mukasida has his own way of doing things when it comes to vocal composition and listeners will not be disappointed with the tracks “Ndadzidza”, “Mangwanani Anouya”, “My Redeemer”, Tinochengetwa Nashe”, “Mweya Mutsvene Huyai”, Zuva Rakanaka”, “Kupinda Pese”, Tinokunamatai” and “My Redeemer (Instrumental)”.
Rishon Murandu — Yarira Ngoma
Rishon Murandu, who sells his music just closer to Town House, is one artiste who is making a big effort to make his music heard. Murandu and his Arts Laboratory Band specialise in the Mbende Jerusarema beat that has its roots in Murehwa although he fuses the traditional beat with modern instruments.
This is not a bad project and thanks to the support of Big Ayi Studios based in Mbare, songs like “Muroora”, “Ndiperekedze”, “Gomba”, “Pasara Vende”, Gen’a Revakuwasha”, “Mambara Ndiwe” as well as the title track, “Yarira Ngoma” together with the DVD to the album, are all receiving a warm response from the public.
Amai Patricia Muzanenhamo — Open Heavens
Gospel musician Kudakwashe Muzanenhamo has used his close relationship with Pastor Charles Charamba and Mai Charamba’s group, The Fishers of Men to refine his music, and this is evidenced by his wife’s powerful album, “Open Heavens”.
Call it a family affair and you won’t be wrong since Kudakwashe Muzanenhamo composed all the songs together with his wife while their son Ardonae (7) is also featured on it. The nine tracks on the album have everything for everyone and one would be forgiven for mistaking Mai Muzanenhamo’s powerful voice to that of the diva Mai Charamba. Renowned gospel musician, Forward Mazuruse, produced the album at his Revival Studios.
