The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe will hold a National Arts and Culture Indaba from 0ctober 29 to 30 at Cresta Churchill in Bulawayo. The Indaba is part of a national cultural dialogue held annually to discuss, deliberate and recommend specific courses of action in the cultural sector. NACZ communications and marketing officer Cathrine Mtombeni said they look forward to more focused discussion and follow up on issues raised in all the Indabas
“This is a platform for stakeholders in the arts and culture sector to meet and have dialogue on issues affecting the development and future of the sector, as well as taking stock of sector achievements.
“We will ensure that we make a follow up on the issues raised and lay the foundation for future advancement of the arts industry,” she said.
Mthombeni said the indaba will be attended by artistes and investors among others.
“Invited to the meeting are artists, administrators, policy makers, investors and other players in the arts and culture sector.
“Some of the objectives include creating a forum for dialoguing, networking, learning and contributing to consolidated growth of the culture sector in Zimbabwe, as well as strengthening sector collaboration and participation in national processes in a coordinated manner,” she said.
Mthombeni added that it will also create a platform for the culture sector to input into national frameworks on culture policy and government strategies on arts and culture including issues affecting the whole sector.
This year’s Indaba would provide a platform for sharing the Ministry of Sport, Arts and Culture’s strategies for the next five years as it is making strides to ensure that it changes the face and future of the sector.
The Indaba is held annually every last Wednesday and Thursday of October and last year it was held in Harare.
This year National Arts Council of Zimbabwe is partnering with Culture Fund of Zimbabwe Trust and HIVOS for the Indaba.
