WARRIORS’ goalkeeper Washington Arubi, who plays for Pretoria University in South Africa’s Absa Premier League, believes the country’s national team which will be participating in the African Nations Championships (Chan) in Johannesburg next month has a huge chance of lifting the trophy.
The former Highlanders and Dynamos goalminder said the national team needs to keep up its momentum and believe.
“The national team will do well under the tutelage of Ian Gorowa. Definitely he will guide the locally based players to a historic victory.
“There is a lot of talent back home what they must do is to keep the same momentum. Gorowa has done well since he took over as head coach of the Warriors, he brought back the confidence”, said Arubi.
He said the Zimbabwean legion of players in South Africa would fully support the team from the terraces.
“Players must not lose focus. They must listen to the coach’s instructions, play as a team and must always remember that they are also doing this for their good but at the same time bringing back happiness to millions of sports followers around the country,” he said.
Gorowa has already called up a 29-member squad that went into camp in Harare on Monday. It will be reduced to the final 23 travelling squad after about a week.
Arubi, who plays alongside his country man Obadiah Tarumbwa, has a tough week as they will be playing a league match against Caf Champions League finalists Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium tomorrow evening.
