With Dynamos boasting of the tightest defence this season, the former Warrior’s goalkeeper could have been running neck-and-neck with Ariel Sibanda and Artwell Mukandi for the goalkeeper’s accolade.
But as a panel of football writers, coaches and referees converge in the capital this morning to choose his successor, Arubi acknowledged that being the 2011 Soccer Star of the Year had opened more avenues for him.
“I was the Soccer Star last season but now I have moved on,” he said.
Arubi is now commanding the number one jersey at AmaTurks.
“Since I have moved over to this side, I have been following Zimbabwean football.
“Naturally, most of my interest has been on Dynamos and it is my hope that a player from the team will be my successor.
“It might be bias or what but if given a choice, I would vote for Patson Jaure or Denver Mukamba. Those two players have been outstanding, even from the time I played with them this season. Even the reports I am reading from home are saying they played well,” said Arubi.
Arubi said he has now settled at his new club and is bracing for fresher challenges.
“For my part, I have now settled well here. Things are now okay and I am just taking it step by step,” he said.
Arubi said he is now feeling at home with former CAPS United midfielder Lionel Mtizwa also at the same team.
“It was a challenge, trying to adjust to the new environment.
“But I am doing well and I hope to make return home for a break in December,” said Arubi.
Arubi will also been keen to know the identity of the player who will replace him as the King of Zimbabwe football.
While he has put his money on Mukamba and Jaure, the duo could face competition from Highlanders’ Masimba Mambare.
Bosso could also provide steely defender Innocent Mapuranga and Milton Ncube among the finalists while Monomotapa’s Ronald Chitiyo had a memorable season.
Shabanie Mine’s Nelson Maziwisa is all but assured of the Golden Boot and could also creep among the finalists along Hwange’s Rodwell Chinyengetere, whose season was brought to a premature end following a horrific injury.
