MUTARE-BORN goalkeeper Washington Arubi kept a clean sheet in his team’s preliminary round 3-0 victory to help Marumo Gallants progress to the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The South African side turned on the power at home last Friday to overturn a 2-1 first leg deficit and handed their Equatorial Guinea opponents a heavy defeat that dumped them out of the continental competition.

Marumo Gallants advanced 4-2 on aggregate.

Preventing the visitors from scoring was crucial to ensure that they do not get an away goal to keep the contest alive, and Arubi did just that.

His experience is proving handy by steading the Premiership newcomers’ ship.

The seasoned shot-stopper is providing a safe pair of hands as they target another fairy-tale run in the tournament similar to the one that saw them clinch the prestigious Nedbank Cup and secure a ticket into the African safari.

Arubi scooped the player of the tournament accolade for his sterling exploits between the sticks throughout the tournament on their way to glory.
