HARARE residents, who use Simon Mazorodze Road, will have to bear with temporary inconvenience as the major road undergoes rehabilitation.
It is one of the major roads in the capital and links the CBD with many high density suburbs.
The road has been closed from the Rothmans area to just after Beatrice Road Infectious Diseases Hospital. Traffic is being diverted to alternative routes to allow for the major roadworks.
The road is part of the Harare-Beitbridge Highway.
Construction of the Simon Mazorodze–Willowvale slip lane at the proposed Rothmans Interchange is also progressing well, with the contractor on site.
The slip lane is aimed at easing congestion at the intersection.
The construction of a traffic-controlled section and a road to manage congestion at the intersection of Willowvale Road and Harare Drive is also underway.
The contractor expects to complete all works and fully open the Willowvale Road and Harare Drive intersection by year-end.
In an interview, the Deputy Director of Construction in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Engineer Virginia Mawere, confirmed the development, saying major works have since commenced along the Simon Mazorodze Road stretch.
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development will soon issue a comprehensive statement on these developments.
