“People should not rule me out yet, they should be patient as I am working on my voice so that I can release a master class album,” he said.
“The Young Igwe”, as Peter is also known, said this after singing one of his new songs that reminded many of his late father, Tongai. Revellers demanded an encore when he sampled lyrics from one of his songs.
“Mushonga mukuru womira newako, kana wane mari vakadzi vanowanda, miyedzo ichauya zuva nezuva, chirwere chakauya kana wofara wofara newako, chihera wangu womira newako, uri kure tsamba dzako dzondifungidza kure, usakanganwe chitsidzo chedu,” go part of the lyrics.
Peter is under pressure to release his own songs. His effort to record an album hit a snag after recording companies urged him to go for vocal lessons.
Renowned gospel artiste Charles Charamba has been coaching the young musician. Judging from his performance on Friday, Peter seemed to have mastered the vocals as one could not differentiate his voice from that of his late father.
He sang some of his father’s all-time classics among them “Muridzi Wenyaya”, “Ndinotenda Dhiya”, and “Zvinoita Murudo”.
The late “Dhewa” or “Muchima Muhombe” was known for his love songs.
Ffans were touched when Peter joined Tryson Chimbetu on the song “Bhora Mberi”, which talks about perseverance and the disadvantages of being an orphan.
The young man was full of verve. He silenced his critics by singing a new song that sent revellers into a frenzy.
