Ashley Miller eyes world stage after Africa Championships success

ASHLEY Miller, Zimbabwe’s record holder in the 100m and 400m hurdles says she has felt the heat of being too long on the road.
Sunday marked the 36th day she had been away from her US base and training.


“I miss my dog, home and my bed. It’s been long on the road for me in which I have taken part in 10 competitions (races) both side of the Atlantic Ocean,” said Miller as she celebrated along with the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe president Tendai Tagara and coach Phakamile Lisimati, the 4x400m relay team’s gold medal in Ghana in the Senior Africa Championships’ final eventually.
She described the whirlwind tour that has seen her compete in Botswana, Ghana and South Africa and running a clinic in Zimbabwe as invaluable and said she is looking forward to going back to training with the aim of making it to Beijing.
“I wanna go back to my coach and work hard. I want to make it to the Beijing World Championships next year,” said Miller.
She did not hide her ambitions.


“We wanna try and see if I can do 53 seconds in the 400m hurdles,” said the national record holder in the 100 and 400m hurdles.
Her recent great performances include two national records in the 100m hurdles (12.92) and 300m (36.48), as well as a standout 55.29 second run in the 400m hurdles placing her firmly among Africa’s elite.
At the recent African Senior Championships she finished fourth in the 400m hurdles and won silver in the 100m.
President Tagara commended her for her commitment to her country and athletics.
