Asiagate, Afcon dominate Zifa board agenda

the Asiagate saga – set to dominate the indaba.
It’s the first meeting for the board since the Warriors failed to qualify for the 2012 Nations Cup finals amid concerns from some fans that the Zifa leadership played a part in the failure.

Zifa’s decision to try and smuggle Belgian coach Tom Saintfiet into the Warriors’ technical team, ahead of a home tie against Cape Verde, has been roundly blamed.
The board will also discuss the decision by its president Cuthbert Dube that Norman Mapeza be given more time to work with the Warriors as their head coach.

Dube met with Mapeza, shortly after the failed 2012 Nations Cup bid, and gave him his assurance that his job was safe.
But there are some hawks within the board, who had tried to bring in Saintfiet in the first place, who feel that Mapeza should be kicked out.

However, their voice has of late been drowned since they seem to just raise it, when there is a meeting, and disappear from the landscape when challenges of funding either the coach’s salary or the team’s preparations emerge.

Dube is also set to report to his board the decision to appoint an Independent Disciplinary Committee, led by Justice Ahmed Ebrahim, to bring to an end the Asiagate saga.
