weekend.
The inaugural edition brought together four Norton junior teams that included Aspire, All Stars, Dream Cast and Ngoni Pirates.
Two teams from Harare – Chamisa United and Dzivarasekwa United – were invited to take part as guests.
In the knockout games, Aspire beat Ngoni Pirates 1-0 and drew with Dream Cast 0-0.
Losing finalists All Stars edged Ngoni Pirates 1-0 and played a goalless draw with Dream Cast, to set up a date with Aspire in the final.
In the final, both teams exhibited good flair, vision, ball distribution and, generally, their skills were a joy to watch.
The only goal of the match came in the second half, a booming drive from the boot of Panashe Kambeva.
All Stars were unfortunate to lose the final, as they were denied on a number of occasions by Aspire goalkeeper Sarprine Milanzi, who pulled off some top-drawer saves.
Linkman Ashley Chidzura of All Stars was outstanding.
Aspire’ victory was made possible by the exploits of goalkeeper Milanzi, captain Jeremiah Makangaire, Kambeva and Emmanuel Jalai.
Pardon Chakanza, the Aspire coach, was thrilled at guiding his side to victory.
“In the matches we played during the tournament, our toughest match was the final against All Stars,” Chakanza said.
He paid tribute to the sponsor George Mutongizo of Bronzegate Investments.
Sponsor Mutongizo indicated that next year they will engage the management of Norton Junior League, to make it an annual event.
He said they were proud to be associated with the town that produced Warriors’ striker Knowledge Musona.
