The MDC-T Kariba party treasurer and its 2018 aspiring Ward 8, Councillor Kainos Bhasera Mutatu, has been arrested for raping a 13-year-old minor. Mutatu (60) was arraigned before Kariba magistrate Toindepi Zhou facing charges of having a sexual relationship with a minor and contravening Section 70 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9:23.

Prosecutor Mr Temptation Maromo is alleging that on an unknown date in November last year, Mutatu proposed love to the minor.

Matatu allegedly invited the minor to the Nyamhunga community water tanks, luring her with snacks and soft drinks for sex.
According to the charges, the minor told the police that Matatu, on their first encounter, invited her to the bushy area where the MDC-T official spread a blue sack and they had sex.

It is also alleged that Matatu had sex with the minor three times without any protection on that encounter.
Mr Maromo said Matatu routinely had sexual encounters with the minor from that day until March this year.
He further alleged that Matatu also lured the girl on two occasions to a male toilet at the vegetable market for sexual encounters.

Matatu’s luck ran out when the minor’s aunt was tipped off about the abuse. She reported Matatu to the police, leading to his arrest.
