adminRAGGA Manyika outfit Assegai Crew will tomorrow (Saturday) entertain fun lovers and their legion of followers when they stage a live performance at the rejuvenated Mandisa Nite Cub.
The group, which is now under the tutelage of one of the founding members and oldest drummers in Zimbabwe, Silas Makumbe, is expected to put up a memorable performance when they show up for the first time this year at the venue.
They are also expected to play old and new gems from their rich discography that dates back to 1997 when they released their debut album, Zvese mari, which carried the hit song, Amai Bhoyi, popularly known as Kanyama Karipi.
Some of their fine tracks include Wandiramba, Nyarara, Zidanda, Ndakudaidza and Makuhwa uroyi drawn from their new album Tauyahe (We are back).
Makumbe, vowed to put up a splendid show saying all the band members were ready for the potentially explosive gig.
“This is yet another platform for us to show the world what we are made of. We are not finished and we will prove our mettle to our fans and critics as well. We are happy with the response we have been getting from our fans and we cannot wait to meet them again,” Makumbe said.
Although the group lost several key members such as Stobart Chidikano, who was the band leader and lead vocalist, talented bassist Philimon Sakala, lead guitarist Elton Majera, keyboardist and backing vocalist Tendai Mparutsa, keyboardist Ronny Mushava, Martin Kafesu, Herbert Keyara (had replaced Stobart on backing vocals) and Luke Chahwanda, they have managed to stand on their feet again and reclaim lost glory.
Show organiser Bonface Nyamanhindi said it was all systems go for the show and urged revellers to come in their numbers and enjoy the Ragga Manyika sound.
He said dance groups would curtain raise for Assegai Crew.
