The Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) Zone VI has congratulated Kirsty Coventry on her election as the 10th president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), thereby marking a historic milestone for African sports leadership.
In a statement, ANOCA Zone VI president Mr Jappie Mhango described Coventry’s election as a monumental achievement for Zimbabwe and the African sporting fraternity.
He commended her as a leader of exceptional calibre and a role model for young female leaders across the continent.
“We are ecstatic that such an outstanding milestone has been achieved by a distinguished leader from our Zone VI,” he said.
“We salute Zimbabwe for producing a leader of exceptional calibre. This historic moment is a powerful inspiration to young female leaders across the continent and beyond.
“Indeed, no dream is too big. With dedication, focus and the right mindset, anything is possible regardless of one’s background.
“We stand with you in shaping the future of the Olympic Movement,” the statement concluded.
Coventry, the former Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Recreation, has been praised for her illustrious sporting career, during which she won seven Olympic medals, including two golds.
