THE Zimbabwe Amalgamated Housing Association (Zaha) has set itself a target to provide 5,000 serviced residential stands countrywide before the end of the year.
Zaha director-general Killer Zivhu told Business Chronicle the project was in line with the government’s goals on housing provision in its five year blue-print, Zim-Asset.
“We’re negotiating with the government to give us farms and growth points that aren’t being used productively. Zaha will then service the housing stands so that prospective home–owners can build houses,” he said.
“Our target is to provide about 5,000 residential stands to home-seekers by the end of the year. In line with Zim-Asset we’re targeting to have 150,000 housing units by 2018.”
Zivhu said Zaha was presently developing housing infrastructure in Norton and Chipinge and that plans were under way to embark on a similar project in Bulawayo.
He noted concerns over some unscrupulous land developers and housing schemes that have fleeced desperate home seekers.
“We’ve partnered with some local financial institutions for mortgages and their money will still remain in their accounts administered by banks with whom we’ve strategic partnerships in the land development scheme,” he said.
Last month, Zaha and ZB Bank entered into a strategic alliance aimed at availing housing stands and affordable mortgages to thousands of home seekers in the country.
The partnership would see ZB Bank providing the required banking services under the facility and arranging the opening of savings and fixed deposit accounts for interested members.
