SUPER Trouper produced a moment of magic on his way to winning the Mercedes-Benz C Class Ipi Tombi Stakes Listed race at Borrowdale on Sunday. The Bay Gelding from the yard of Gokhan Terzi cleared 1,600M in one minute 34.75 seconds to beat the second placed runner Thriller In Manila by 0.75 lengths.
Jockey Brendon McNaughton on the irons left it until the final 200M to make a last minute charge towards the winning post on his way to victory in the Ipi Tombi race.
For winning the Mercedes-Benz C Class Ipi Tombi Stakes Listed race Super Trouper and his running partner jockey McNaughton returned to the stables $7,200 richer.
The third, fourth and fifth placed runners Thriller In Manila, Menacing and Glorious Jet got $2,400, $1,500 and $900 respectively.
At 4:25PM the white flag went up, the gates opened setting free a field of 12 sprinters which jumped off the blocks at blistering pace. As the field navigated its way around the two turns at the racecourse they were neck to neck until the final 600M straight home run in.
At that point a pack of four runners broke clear from the rest of the field to start an exciting four horse race. This battle pitting four equines continued up to the 200M mark and something extra-ordinary happened. Super Trouper went a gear up, broke clear from a league of four horses and charged towards the winning post like a possessed runner to register a win to remember.
For one moment at Borrowdale, Super Troupe reignited those memories of the trailblazing Ipi Tombi displaying tremendous finishing style.
Trainer Terzi was a happy man.
“I’m very happy with the horse because he tries hard all the time. He is the champion of Zimbabwe.
“So far he has won 11 races, he always wants to get up and win. Thank you very much to Super Trouper.”
On being asked what his game plan was Terzi said the plan was stay behind for a while then strike.
“He is a horse that likes to chase others by coming from the back so the training has to be correct. We came from behind as planned and hit them,” said Terzi
