AT LAST, SOMETHING TO MAKE CAPS FANS SMILE

Bruce Chikuni

CAPS United have finally convinced goalkeeper and captain, Tonderai Mateyaunga, to extend his stay for the remainder of this campaign.

He recently sustained a minor injury and is still on a recovery path.

Mateyaunga’s contract with the Green Machine expired last month.

There was a growing speculation that Mateyaunga was close to securing a deal with Premiership newcomers, Simba Bhora.

And, his contract extension will provide the Green Machine, who appeared to have lost their defensive shield during his absence, with something to cheer their spirits.

The former Dynamos ‘keeper recorded eight clean sheets in 12 assignments before the expiry of his union with the club. Ashley Rayners has been providing cover for Mateyaunga but his statistics read – six games played and nine goals conceded.
“We are happy to confirm that we have managed to reach an agreement with our captain to continue with us.

“There were many clubs who were keen to get his signature but we are grateful that he chose this club and we value his decision.

“He has been one of our key players and having him at the club will help us achieve our targets,” said a senior club official.

Mateyaunga also confirmed these developments to Zimpapers Sport Hub.

“It’s good to be at the club and I’m happy with this continuation,” he said.

“It’s my wish to help the team to achieve its objectives and I believe we have the capacity to be where we want to be.

“As an individual, it’s my wish to get more clean sheets and I believe I can only get that with the help of my teammates.”

CAPS United are winless in their past three fixtures in which they have picked up just one point.

They are in action this Sunday in the Chibuku Super Cup against Hwange at Bata Stadium.
