THERE is something almost mythical about the Eastern Highlands.
Cloaked in mist, draped in greenery, and blessed with some breathtaking landscapes, this region has become more than just a travel destination.
It is now a cinematic stage for a new wave of musicians blending art with nature.
At the forefront of this trend is the elegant and rising singer, Atenda Chinx (20), whose unique talent cannot be ignored.
Daughter of the late liberation war hero and music legend, Dickson Chingaira, fondly known as Cde Chinx, Atenda has inherited, not only her father’s musical gene, but also exudes strong artistic vision that is uniquely her own.
Her breakout single, Ndodi, released this week, has taken the industry by storm – receiving rave reviews for its rich vocals as a beautiful love story, catchy melody, and most notably, its visually stunning video.
Shot in the serene and evergreen paradise parts of the Eastern Highlands, such as Vumba, the video is more than a visual companion to the song – it is a love letter to Manicaland’s natural beauty.
Directed by the talented Leoyv, produced by Vince Good Beats, and mastered by Brian Jeck, the video takes viewers on an emotional journey through rolling mist-covered hills, ancient forests, and cascading waterfalls.
One of the most unforgettable moments comes at Nyachowa Falls, where torrents of water rush down like a veil in motion, forming a mesmerising, almost spiritual backdrop as Atenda sings with grace and soul.
The iconic Leopard Rock Hotel, with its old-world charm and panoramic mountain views, also features in the video, adding a touch of timeless elegance that perfectly complements the theme of love, longing, and reflection in the song.
But Atenda is not alone in discovering the magic of the Eastern Highlands.
In recent months, the region has become something of a creative pilgrimage for Zimbabwean creatives.
From soulful jazz to contemporary Afro-fusion, artistes are flocking to the east, not only for the clean air and calm energy, but for the breathtaking visuals that cannot be replicated anywhere else.
Afro-jazz diva and Harare-based lyricist, Rutendo Jackie early this year made headlines with her emotionally rich video, Jakwerina, a chart-topper that pairs powerful vocals with unforgettable mountain scenery.
Equally memorable is Feli Nandi’s iconic gem, Mubayei, which features The Unveiled, a hauntingly beautiful track brought to life in the deep, mystical thickets of Vumba.
These artistes are not just creating music videos – they are telling deeper stories, weaving Zimbabwe’s landscape into their narratives, using nature, not just as a backdrop, but as a character in its own right.
And Vumba, with its foggy mornings, emerald valleys, and endless shades of green, is stealing the show.
For Atenda, the new masterpiece is, not just a masterpiece, but a declaration.

Atenda has become popular for songs such as Lockdown as well as Rima, where she featured talented rapper, Voltz JT on the popular track, Rima, on his N.O.P Makoni album.
