ORGANISERS of the Zimswitch-KidzCan Victory Lap run, which was held at the Belgravia Sports Club in Harare yesterday, have described the event as a huge success.
There was a massive response to the charitable event with more than 560 adult participants taking part.
More than 30 kids, among them those that survived cancer, also participated in the event.
“I am impressed by the massive response. Our initial target was 500 participants but we ended up having more,” said Zimswitch Marketing Manager Sharon Marira.
“The kids also came in their numbers and we are grateful for that show of support,” Marira said.
The event was divided into the men’s and women’s 5, 10 and 21 kilometre races.
Participants were mostly drawn from sports clubs, with individuals that are not attached to any clubs also taking part.
The winners were given consolation prizes.
Lovemore Mbengeranwa won the men’s 10km race, with Nyasha Tendo taking second position.
Felistas Murinzi of Belgravia Sports Club won the women’s 21km race, with Petronella Chitaka, who competed as an individual, taking second position.
Jan Muunga of the Zimbabwe Republic Police won the men’s 21km race.
Chantel Mbofana emerged the victor in the women’s 5km race, with Charles Mwazhawonga being the winner in the male category.
Apart from the half marathon, participants also took part in a fitness event.
The run is used by KidzCan Zimbabwe to raise awareness and funds for the care and treatment of children battling cancer.
