THE Bulawayo Athletics Board (Bab) says it expects about 100 athletes to join them at trials on Sunday to select a provincial squad for the 2018 athletics season.

Bab chairman Manuel Mpofu said he expects athletes to better their times at the trials on the track as well as to increase lengths, heights and distances in field events.

“We want to produce athletes that will represent their schools, districts, provinces and the country at any level of competition. We hope to see stiff competition on the day. We also want to give our coaches ample time to work with selected athletes to ensure they produce good results,” said Mpofu.

He said they would also use the trials to create a database of athletes and their times for organisations that offer athletics scholarships.

Trials will be held in the 2000m, 150m, 60m, 1000m,600m,300m, 150m and 4X400m mixed relay as well as high jump, long jump, javelin and discus.
