THE Inter-Club track and field meet set for White City Stadium this afternoon will present an opportunity for athletes to register times that may send them to the African Senior Championships (ASC) in Mauritius in June.
It will also serve as a preparatory competition for those aiming to qualify for the World Championships to be held in the USA in July and World Juniors Championships set for Colombia in August.
Bulawayo Athletics Board (Bab) chairperson Watson Madanyika said all is in place ahead of the competition.
“We’re excited that the event is going ahead.
The athletes have been longing to compete in competitions such as this one.
This meeting is very important to us as we are going to use it as one of the key selection platforms for both seniors and juniors.
No spectators will be allowed into the venue. Only athletes and support staff will be allowed entry,” said Madanyika.
“We will only use one gate and all the other gates will remain locked.
Those allowed access will be screened at the gate and their details recorded,” he said.
Events athletes can enter are 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1 500m, 5 000m, 10 000m, 4x100m relay, long jump and high jump.
Meanwhile, registration for the Econet Victoria Falls opened this week at www.vicfallsmarathon.com and participants can pay using EcoCash, MasterCard or Visa Card.
For local (Zimbabwean) athletes, the 7.5km Lion route attracts a fee of US$5, the 21km Leopard route costs US$10, while the 42km Elephant route requires US$15 for one to participate.
Athletes from the Sadc region will pay US$5 for the Lion route, US$30 for the Leopard route and US$40 for the Elephant route.
Participants from outside the Sadc region will pay US$10, US$50 and US$60 for the three respective races.
