Attracting God’s attention

GREETINGS, beloved nation, in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Many times, we think that God is only attracted to us when we are in a formal setting, such as in church.
One thing I have discovered in my walk with God is that certain portals are opened as we converse.

Whenever two or three people meet, there is something that attracts God to them as they begin to discuss Him or the doings of Jehovah.

I discovered that during the coronavirus era, many Christians backslid, some lost their zeal for God, some lost their prayer life because they were told that God is only found within a church setting.
But if we look in the scriptures, we see that there is a powerful way to attract God when two or three

gather—not only gather but also when they discuss the things of God.

When we read in the book of Malachi 3:16-18, we see that there were these men and the Bible says that, firstly, they feared the Lord and spoke often one to another.

This indicates that these men were discussing. First, they feared and loved the Lord. The Bible says that as they discussed, the Lord listened—not only listened but He heard what they were talking about.
There are two things that happened here: (i) God hearkened and (ii) He heard them. The other translation says, “The Lord listened and heard.” This means that in their discussion, when we talk about hearkening, we are referring to God taking notice and becoming attracted. Not only that,

He listened carefully to what these men were saying because their discussion included the name of the Lord.

This caused God not only to be attracted but also to hear and hearken. These are two powerful words. Someone who hearks is someone who listens attentively and hears fully, meaning He grasped the entire conversation.

The Bible says that as they were talking, a book of remembrance was written before God in Heaven. This indicates that there is a book called the Book of Remembrance that God writes and keeps.

When the season or kairos moment arrives, that book is opened and certain promises written therein are released to the individual or group that God has been waiting on for the right time.

The Book of Remembrance, as we discussed previously, is a record of blessings — something God documents so that at the appropriate time, those blessings are released because of what they did for God to remember.

When the book was opened, the Bible states that because these men feared God and thought upon His name, God responded by declaring concerning them: “They are mine,” says the Lord of hosts (Malachi 3:17).

In other words, God made a covenant concerning their communication.
He declared in Heaven that these are truly His people. He made a vow, a declaration that when He makes up His jewels, meaning precious stones — these men are being processed and refined, becoming jewels in His eyes.

God allows certain fires and situations to purify them, making them special to Him because of their informal discussion about God not murmuring or mumbling, but talking about His things in a way that made God attentive.

Furthermore, God said, “I will spare them,” meaning that when disaster comes, their discussion will invoke God’s protection.

The question is, what do we discuss when we come together with friends that might cause God to declare such favour, making Heaven recognise us? I have discovered that certain conversations attract God, draw Him near and prompt divine declarations because of what is being spoken.

I pray that in our informal settings whether one-on-one or in groups — what we discuss will cause Heaven to notice us. The issue is that when people meet, some discussions attract curses. God is serious about our words and what we say to one another.

The Bible speaks often about the power of the tongue — life and death are in the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). When we look at Genesis, we see that the first time God spoke was during creation; words were heard when God created the Heavens and the earth. Therefore, God is serious about our speech.

Many times, as people eat and drink, they speak things that do not attract God. Something that troubled me is found in Numbers 12:1-2. We hear about Miriam and Aaron.

The Bible states that they spoke against Moses — these two, in their tent, were discussing the Ethiopian woman he had married.

They said in verse 2, “Has the Lord spoken only through Moses? Has He not also spoken through us?”
And the Lord heard this. These individuals were gossiping about Moses in secret, and God heard.

This means that everything we discuss is heard by God. Whether over the phone, on WhatsApp, or via email — God hears.

Two things occurred here: God heard and He did not simply ignore what they were saying; He listened with anger because they were speaking against His servant.

When we gossip and speak against God’s servants, God hears. Further, a curse of leprosy came upon Miriam, illustrating that certain curses can result from our words.

The Bible tells us that Miriam was afflicted for days and Israel could not move forward because of her leprosy. They had to wait for her to be healed.

My encouragement is that, whether in our bedrooms or elsewhere, husbands and wives should be careful what they speak because words can attract blessings or curses.

The reason many do not see God’s hand or provision is because of what they speak or discuss when they meet.

Their words do not attract God; instead, they attract curses.

Be very cautious about what you talk about when with friends or others; your words can either lift you up or bring you down.

God is serious about communication and words. Do we speak about others, or do we speak about God? May God bless you all.
