Attractive prizes for Liquor Hub Fun Road Race

ATTRACTIVE prizes are once again in store for the fifth edition of the Liquor Hub 10km Fun Road Race on 15 December, with the winner of the men as well as women’s races set to walk away with R5 000.

Registration, which is pegged at $50 for seniors and $30 for juniors has now opened at Wholesale Centre Groceries and Liquor Hub, with the process to be open until the morning of the race. 

The prize for second place is R3 000 while R2 000 will go to those one who will finish in third position. 

For junior men and women, the winners will get R1 500, R1 000 for second prize and R500 for third place. 

For wheelchair men and women, the first prize is R2 000 and R1 500 for number two. 

There are also prizes for the youngest male and female athletes, with R200 to be given to the first young athletes to cross the finish line and R150 for the second. 

Last year, Chitungwiza-based Canisious Nyamutsita won the Liquor Hub 10km Fun Road Race when he crossed the finish line in 29 minutes 34,48 seconds, which is the best time ever set since the competition started in 2015. 

Patience Garuziva of Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services won the women’s race in 2018. 

Liquor Hub owner Raj Modi, who is also the Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce and MP for Bulawayo South is the sponsor of the race. 

Bulawayo Athletics Board (Bab)  chairman, Manuel Mpofu called on sport loving athletes to register and compete in the Liquor Hub Race. Mpofu also expressed gratitude to the sponsors for playing a part in the advancement of athletics. 

“We encourage all top and sport loving athletes to come and compete at this race which closes the athletics season for 2019. We also thank the sponsor for the support in the development of athletics through and through,” Mpofu said.

Last year, 300 athletes took part in the Liquor Hub Fun Road Race.
