The month of June is dedicated to celebrating the men in our lives.
Father’s Day is celebrated around in world on June 20.
It is a time to honour fatherhood and reflect on the importance of fathers in society.
In every man, there is a father, and it is through them that society is what it is today.
We appreciate and respect men for all the hassles they go through because of their love and sacrifices.
Healthy societies are born out of the union between a man and a woman through marriage.
But, what is it that we call marriage?
Essentially, it is a union that is supposed to be characterised by love, faithfulness, respect and honesty.
However, this is not always the case.
Love is a key ingredient of marriage and should be about action, not just words.
It should be seen and felt, and communication is the key driver.
Happiness should always be the hallmark of marriage.
Whenever the other partner does wrong, it is important for them to apologise.
Likewise, partners in a union should learn to forgive and forget.
Once there is two-way communication, you begin to understand each other better.
However, this is not to say you will never argue as a couple.
You are two different people from different backgrounds; therefore, your opinions will naturally differ.
What is important is for you to always be level-headed and to meet half-way each time there is a stalemate.
Then there is the issue of faithfulness.
Extramarital relationships are a threat to any marriage.
As a couple, you spend most of your time together and even participate and cherish each other’s interests.
In short, you should be best friends.
Also, learn to appreciate and respect each other so that your love grows from strength to strength.
You have to find a reason to put a smile on your spouse’s face all the time if you want your home to be filled with happiness.
Do not forget special occasions like birthdays, marriage anniversary, Father’s or Mother’s Day, among other special events.
If possible, diarise the events so that you do not forget them.
Be wary of external interference.
There are some friends, and even family members, that pretend to be close, yet they have hidden agendas.
You should be prepared to cut ties with unhelpful friends.
Always remember, a happy marriage leads to a happy life.
