adminUganda’s ministry of foreign affairs in a statement issued yesterday said the Council endorsed Kutesa following a decision by Cameroon to withdraw its candidate, Pierre Moukoko, in favour of Uganda’s candidate. The statement said Moukoko withdrew his candidature based on the need to further promote the friendly relations existing between the two countries, as well as maintaining African solidarity for international posts and positions.
It is Africa’s turn to provide the President to the assembly for the 69th Session based on the principle of geographical rotation.
“This endorsement therefore means Honourable Kutesa will be elected by acclamation by the United Nations General Assembly during elections to be held in June 2014,” said the statement.
Kutesa said the decision for Cameroon to withdraw its candidate signifies Africa’s confidence in Uganda to represent them at the highest level. — Xinhua.
