Australia A win Tri-series final

over South Africa A in the final of the Coca Cola Triangular Challenge at the Harare Sports Club yesterday.
Warner hit 120 from 127 balls and Hughes scored a run-a-ball 138 in a 206 run opening stand in 37,3 overs to help Australia to 293 for six and then their bowlers just about managed to defend the total as South Africa were bowled out for 291 in their 50 overs.
What made Warner and Hughes’s contributions even more amazing as that Andrew Finch (20) was the only other Australian batsman to reach double figures as they lost their way in the latter stages of their innings. John Hastings, Mitchell Marsh and Callum Ferguson all went for single digits as they searched for big hits close to the end.
Although he didn’t pick up any wickets, spinner Justin Ontong kept things tidy with 36 runs in his 10 overs. Roelof van der Merwe was the most successful in terms of wickets and finished with three for 58.
South Africa captain Jacques Rudolph gave his side hope with 97-ball 90 at the top of the innings, but they slipped to 175 for six following his departure as off-break bowler Nathan Lyon (three for 55) and Marsh (four for 58) stifled the batsmen.
Vaughn van Jaarsveld stopped the rot with 70 runs from 69 balls while tail-enders Vernon Philander (22 from 35) and Rory Kleinveldt (a 19-ball 32) brought South Africa A back into the game with some late blows. However, Australia’s bowlers and fielders kept their nerve and the South Africans fell short by two runs.
Hughes was named man of the match for his 138 while Lyon walked away with the man-of-the-series honours after finishing the tournament with 11 wickets at an average of 16,63. – Cricket365.com.
