Author (15) publishes two books

At just 15 years old, most teenagers are focused on schoolwork, friends and weekend sports.

But Taonga Nyadome, a first-time author from Zimbabwe, has done what many only dream of in a lifetime: published not one, but two books rooted in Christian faith. Titled “The Journey” and “Life Through The Spirit”, the two titles are already available on shelves in various bookshops and churches across the country. For Nyadome, this rapid rise to publication is not about fame or fortune — it is a calling.

“My inspiration comes from my love for Christ and the zeal to participate in the great commission,” Nyadome said in an interview. “Writing these books is my way of spreading the Gospel beyond the four walls of a church. I want to reach people where they are — through the written word.”

The young author, who is the first person in his family to ever publish a book, describes “The Journey” as a reflective piece on personal faith and transformation, while “Life Through The Spirit” delves deeper into daily spiritual living and the role of the Holy Spirit. Both books are written from a deeply personal perspective but aim to resonate with readers of all ages seeking spiritual guidance.

“I never imagined I would be an author at 15,” Nyadome admitted. “But once I started writing, the words just came. It felt like God was guiding my hand.”

Despite his youth, Nyadome has shown remarkable business acumen. He self-published both books, navigating the often-tricky waters of editing, cover design, and distribution largely on his own.

However, he is quick to credit his family for their unwavering support.

“My family has been my rock,” he said. “They believed in me when I was just a boy with a notebook and a dream. They helped with resources, encouragement, and the practical side of publishing. I would not have made it without them.”

Beyond his family, Nyadome has also found a powerful ally in the Reprographic Rights Organisation of Zimbabwe (RROZ). The organisation, which focuses on protecting authors’ rights and ensuring they are compensated for their work, has been instrumental in helping the teenager turn his ministry into a sustainable enterprise.

“RROZ has been guiding me on how to make this venture profitable without losing sight of my mission,” Nyadome explained.

“Yes, my goal is to spread the Word of God, not to chase profits. But being part of RROZ ensures that I get some returns on my talent, which allows me to keep writing and reaching more people.”

The organisation’s efforts to professionalise Zimbabwe’s local book industry have caught the young author’s attention. He believes that with the right structure, many young writers could turn their passion into a viable career.

“I want to encourage other young writers to join RROZ,” he said.

“The organisation has serious plans to professionalise our local book industry. There is potential for real returns on one’s talent here. You don’t have to go overseas to be a successful author. Zimbabwe has readers, and we have stories worth telling.”

Nyadome’s advice to aspiring authors, particularly those his age, is simple but bold: “Start now. Don’t wait until you’re older or until you feel ‘ready.’ Write for a purpose. If God has given you a message, share it. And protect your work by joining organisations like RROZ, because your talent is an asset.”

As The Journey and Life Through The Spirit continue to find their way into the hands of readers, Taonga Nyadome is already thinking ahead. He hints that more books may be on the horizon, but for now, he is savouring the moment — and giving                                     thanks.

“To my family, to RROZ, and to everyone who has bought a book: thank you,” he said. “This is only the                            beginning.”

Copies of “The Journey” and “Life Through The Spirit” are available at selected bookshops and churches nationwide.
