Local author Mthokozisi Ncube has achieved more than local recognition; he conquered distant shores by winning the prestigious PanAfrikan Excellence Award in Douala, Cameroon earlier this month. The award ceremony, hosted by the PanAfrikan (PANAFES), a subsidiary of the United Africa for Economic Empowerment, celebrated Ncube’s literary contributions to the African narrative.
Ncube was honoured with the Pan-African Literary Work of the Year award, a recognition that resonated across the African literary scene. Poet Obert Dube received the award on Ncube’s behalf during the ceremony on December 3, adding to the excitement of the evening.
Expressing his gratitude, Ncube credited his success to faith and divine intervention.
“The win proves beyond doubt that indeed, there is nothing impossible with God and nothing is impossible if you have faith in yourself,” he remarked.
The recognition follows a prior win as one of the Top 30 Influencers of the Year in the Matabeleland South Province and beyond, organised by the Matabeleland South Business Summit and Awards.
A 2021 Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards and 20th National Arts Merit Awards nominee, Ncube also received an Honourary award at the 5th African Annual Global Honoree Authors Awards last year. To conclude 2023, the multi-lingual author is putting the finishing touches on two literary manuscripts, “When Darkness Engulfs” and “Zidla Belindile”.
The momentum continues into 2024 as Ncube is set to receive the Zim Community Trailblazers 2023 Outstanding Literary Work Award at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) on January 19.
