LIBERATION war heroes have appealed to the Government to avail more resources towards the exhumation and reburial of freedom fighters who perished during the liberation struggle and are buried in shallow graves.
Speaking on the sidelines of Independence Day commemorations in Guruve, Guruve District war veterans’ chairperson, Cde Bernard Mondo, said there was need to conduct proper burials of comrades who died during the liberation struggle.
“As we celebrate this year’s independence, we should not forget that there are many cadres who are still buried in shallow graves across the country. We should give them decent burials, so we are appealing to the Government to avail more resources towards this programme,” he said.
Chairperson of war vets in Mazowe North, Cde Collins Dera, said: “It should be known that everyone who went to war was being led by the spirit of this land and all those comrades died in the name of the Chimurenga, hence we have to do proper cultural rites to ensure that peace and tranquillity prevails in the country.”
